-Endangered Baby Turtle Release
The Sea Turtle is making a comeback in the waters of Acapulco and you and your family have the opportunity to help! You will choose a baby sea turtle that has been raised by the Turtle Conservation Program and release it back into the ocean. This is a special environmental conservation experience that you and your family will never forget!
-Chapel of Peace and Trouyet Cross
The chapel is full of interesting history and architecture. It is, beyond a doubt, a place of serenity and peace, located on one of the most exclusive residential areas in Acapulco, Mexico. Here you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the bay and of Roqueta Island.
-The Cliff Divers
La Quebrada, Acapulco, is the site of the famous cliff divers performance. Since 1934 this has been one of Mexico’s feature attractions. The divers leap from cliffs 136 feet above the crashing Pacific, landing in an 11 feet deep inlet. You will get a front row seat to this amazing display of human potential at one of the most breath-taking sights in Acapulco.
-The Mural of Diego Rivera
Created in 1956 and located on the side of a house, this mural is one of the city’s most important cultural artifacts. The Mural is Located in the Traditional area of Acapulco in the home of the lat Dolores Olmedo who possessed the largest collection of Diego Rivera paintings in the world. The Diego Rivera mural is on the facade of one of the houses that is considered to be a treasure of Mexican contemporary history. The mural now belongs to Mrs. Dolores Olmedo and was created in 1956, made with colored mosaics, stones and seashells.
-A Walk Through the City Market
Mercado Municipal is a really eye-opener. This large Mexican market is fascinating. There will be so much to see—dry goods, housewares, gorgeous flowers, candy, live roosters, fresh produce and much more. Many stalls feature health care products, which were a combination of herbal remedies and Santeria (witch doctor) type spells and prayers to saints. One of these stalls has a cage full of large live bugs and animals whose purpose you´d prefer not to ask about.
-Witch Doctor Market
Visit a Mexican Witch doctor market and learn the obscure and still practiced beliefs and methods used believed to cure people of ailments and illnesses. The witch market shop is a visit to the strange, sometimes disturbing, subculture of a historical and present-day belief system rooted in myth and folklore still present in Mexico.
-Xtasea Zip Line
Our group will also be going to the NEW World’s Longest over water zip line: XTASEA Zip Line! (Those who wish to take part in this will pay separately when we get there. We will be getting a group rate.)
*The tour for our Unschooling Camp also includes a drive-through of different housing areas, wealthy, middle and poor areas with a discussion of the past, present and future of Acapulco through sharing history and hopes for Acapulco’s future. With a special focus on natural learning and peaceful parenting, Dayna’s friend and owner, Rudy, of the 5-star experience, “Tour By Van,” is honored to offer this exclusive tour for the Unschooling Camp.
