About Joshua Martinez
| Joshua Martinez will share his journey toward building a more self-sufficient life after finding the fast pace of city living draining to both body and spirit. Motivated to step away from what he saw as the “rat race,” he began working on a farm, preparing the land and infrastructure for raising animals. During this period, Joshua was arrested and placed under house arrest due to social media activity, facing multiple legal restrictions—including a prohibition from entering the city of Las Vegas by judicial order. Although he requested permission to return to Las Vegas for work, his request was denied. Without access to traditional employment, he turned fully toward producing his own food as a means of survival and independence. What began as raising a small number of meat birds for personal use soon expanded as friends and family took notice of the quality. They began asking him to raise birds on their behalf, and demand steadily grew. His flock increased from 13 to 25, then to 80, and eventually to over 200 birds, with continued growth. Alongside poultry, Joshua developed a garden to supply food for his household and introduced goats for milk and meat. His family also became involved, with his father starting a pig operation that contributes to feeding both their household and extended community. Joshua emphasizes that raising food in a desert environment comes with significant challenges, but through persistence and commitment, he continues to learn and adapt. He remains on this path of self-sufficiency and hopes to share his experiences and knowledge with others who are seeking a similar way of life. |
