Forging Iron at Man Camp Thursday

February 20, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
$50.00

Welcome to Blacksmithing at ManCamp, a 1 hour workshop, at 8am, 9am and 10am Monday to Thursday

I will instruct and help you Forge a coat hook out of steel rod, just the way it was done 300 years ago, by blacksmiths.

This class is highly recommended for brave kids from 6 years old and up. When a kids takes a piece of rod iron and heats it in a forge, then manipulates the hot steel with a hammer and anvil, creating a useful functional coat hook, this builds confidence. Builds confidence in adults also. earn a dopamine hit and learn a skill at the same time.

I would like to see each participant forge at least 2 coat hooks (Dad's help maybe needed), as kids want to show all their friends the coat hook they forged, so one to hang your coat on and another to show off.

Adults are welcome to this workshop also, it is not just for kids. A teenager or adult Should be able to forge 5 hooks in the workshop.

I will have a propane forge and 2 anvils, kids gloves, adult gloves safety glasses (youth and adult), aprons, you should be wearing, socks shoes and pants as blacksmithing involves very hot steal (up to 1700*F), many people have done this in flip flops and shorts, and some got a little brunt.

If you buy this work shop please watch you tube video "How to Forge Coat Hooks - Colonial Style - Beginner Blacksmithing Techniques"

spectators are welcome

It will be hot be sure to hydrate up before and after this work shop, if you are heat sensitive it would be better to book the 8 am workshop
